In December 2023, I started my new journey in Illinois as a Packaging Engineer Contractor for Diageo, a massive alcohol and spirits manufacturer. It wasn't an easy transition with my move from Virginia to Illinois, but it's one I needed to undertake to begin my career.
I learned so much on the job and I am very grateful to my managers and team members for making it the experience of a lifetime.
What a race it was! We had to hustle and keep ahead of competition as me and my teammates devised a careful route and method to hit as many of our sponsors as possible and complete the challenges swiftly, before the timer ran out. I interned at Gadge USA over 2 months in Long Island, New York. Gadge USA aims to provide packaging solutions to regional businesses and Fortune 500 companies throughout the Northeastern region of the States and connects businesses.
I had a great experience learning about the packaging design process from a graphic design lens and how it ties directly into production. The internship and responsibilities deepened my understanding of the intricacies involved in creative design and how our jobs as packaging engineers tie into providing proper packaging solutions for companies, clients, and consumers.
I worked alongside Colin Kennedy and conducted research on the supply chain journey of temperature control units! Air Conditioning and Heat Pump units take a beating during their journeys from the manufacturer to the consumer, so it was important for the company to understand how the units were being impacted. We got to drop some AC units and determine how they performed.
The research took a semester to fully complete. We used a series of customized ISTA tests for each unit to better determine how the units (packaging, product, and all) were affected by the rigors of our global supply chain.

I worked in a research team to help determine the viability of paper stretch wrap as a replacement for HDPE stretch wrap for unit loads. We tested a unit load of approximately 2400 lbs through ISTA 3E testing standards for the relative efficacy of the paper stretch wrap alternative.
